What would cause me to be deleted?
About November 7, 2009 I was in Ohio to visit my grandmother and pick up items
from my mother that passed away in May 2009. I could not log in... I would
try every day and I could not get logged on... Strange, I had not received any
notice there was a problem. I emailed the email address for MPVA asking
what happened...

until Nov. 16

I was confused but in the meantime, my grandmother came down with menginitis and
was hospitalized. I had no access to a computer printer and hand wrote my
application information to resubmit my dues on November 16 and sent a check to
Harvey Bach's address he uses to collect dues.
I heard nothing and could
not log in... On November 30, I sent a email to MPVA again asking what the
status was
(click to view) and received no response.
On, December 8, 2009, I still had not heard anything and sent another email

It was very frustrating that a association and corporation doesn't answer a
question. I received the following response

I choose not to make a phone call to find out why my membership renewal was
denied and feel it must be something that a board member does not want to be
held accountable for later. I still don't know what the problem was.....
On December 8, 2009, I received a email that included: "Hi
Norm, Your membership is being denied and your check is being returned to you.
Reason is to lengthy for an email, but I'd be glad to explain it to you over the
phone if you'd like. Just give me a call."
It was bad enough I have to try repeatedly to find
out what was wrong and now I'm supposed to call. I'd rather have someone
independent of both sites standing next to me if I have to talk to someone.
Since March of 2009 I have made no posts on MPVA following a post I made about
Don Zabinski. Eddie Abboud had talked to Don while in the hospital and Don
asked that information about him and a family member be posted on the veterans
site. Eddie did not have access to MPVA to post and asked me to. I
did the post exactly as Eddie asked and what Don wanted. The next day the
post had been deleted and no one had emailed me or called me to tell me why or
that they had done it. I had to email a board member and ask why. I
was told that I had been in violation of HIPPA (medical release of information -
look it up on google), which was wrong and that veterans did not need to know
certain details. I won't get into the exchange of emails on this because
I'd rather let the whole matter rest. That is the only reason why I think
I was deleted from THIS site.
The only other reason I can think of is because I help run the "other site", was
back in March 2009, one person that registered on
www.mpd-vets.org was found to have other
computers/persons using the username and password. The persons access was
deleted and not by me. This had nothing to do with MPVA, however, I
received a email that "we" had treated the person unjustifiably). I tried
to explain this but the board member told me "Who
cares what website see visits or doesn't visit?"
and "As for our
protecting access to our site compared to yours ... ours is a pay to join and
view Association .. We check IP's to make sure folks aren't giving out their
Password so others can view for free without Registering and paying their dues"
...
. HOWEVER, if you do it on MPVA's web site,
you violate the established and printed web standards: Quoted from the
MPVA Website Standards :
"B. THE STANDARDS : Members agree that, through the use of the Message Board, they will not post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, knowingly inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, grossly obscene, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of any member’s privacy, or otherwise in violation of the law. 1. Members shall not engage in mean-spirited exchanges with other MPDVETS in their postings. 2. Members shall not provide their User ID and Password to any other person."
I am not sure if this had anything to do with MY MPVA
membership being cancelled because it had nothing to do with THAT site. It's
just a thought of why was my membership cancelled.
As far as I know, I have done nothing deterimental to MPVA's web site.
Maybe it's because I help with another site and there is still that friction
between the two.
Here is a quote from a MPVA board member on a email to me:
"There's currently
only two people that are denied access to the MPVA site (after paying their dues
of course), but you can be sure any others will get the opportunity to offer
their side of the story before they get removed from the site and their $15.00
dues returned to them".
Except if you are me... I had to keep sending emails asking what happened to my
membership.
I have no regrets about anything I have done and as the MPVA is being run now,
I have no desire to try to rejoin. If you take a
look at the membership list, scroll down and see how many people are not really
involved in being on the web site to exchange information, which doesn't mean it
is wrong. Some you never see at reunions or posting and probably just keep
sending in their dollars to MPVA and get the newsletters for updates. The
one thing good about MPVA was the scholarships, it was a good way to show good
faith in the funds that have been collected from dues of over 800 people
annually. I had hoped to let my grandchildren apply but they won't be able
to now. Paid members of the corporation have no votes or say in
expenditures. One example is the purchase and restoration of a car that is
similar to a Miami Police Car with a specific car number on it. I wonder
if anyone has done a registration and title check to see who actually owns the
car and what would happen to it if MPVA would close shop one day.
I am not trying to divide any group of veterans by these pages and posts...only
putting out some facts without personal relationships influencing decisions.
I am still a Miami Police Veteran and proud of it,
despite my membership being terminated in November 2009.
