What may have ever caused my membership to be terminated with the MPVA?
First, a little bit about me since I retired in May 1995. I
have been a member of the FOP since I started the academy but never joined the
PBA. Prior to retiring I attended many barbecues, parties, meetings while
in Miami.
After retiring, I attended some of the retiree's reunions in Ocala and in 2000
(?) Dick Witt, who was retired and living in Ormond Beach, Florida, where I
lived, asked me to help him host the annual retiree's reunion in the Daytona
area. The previous hosts, Dave & Mercia Lamport had held it many years in
Ocala and they decided it was time to take a break.
Dick and I worked hard coordinating the first reunion which was held
at South Daytona at the Holiday Inn. With over 300 people we outgrew the
hotel and were able to find a new one at the Plaza Resort and Spa in Daytona
Beach. We then hosted 3 more there with one real mess when a hurricane
came and we had a complete change of dates. In 2005 Dick and Betty Witt
and Mary Ann and I were burned out and wanted a break from doing it.
Fortunately, Chuck and Teri Reynolds took on being the host when no one else
came to the plate.
During that time period, it was a good feeling to have seen many people I have
worked with in the past and met others and spouses I never had met.
I also attended two of the North Georgia Mountain reunions hosted by Adam and
Mikele Carter.
Now the reunions have moved to another city and now registrations have been
supplemented by the Miami PBA and MPVA.
